USUDI SE!
Hi, everybody!
I’d like to use this opportunity to present the biggest project I’ve ever worked on up until now. The project involved painting the area of our City swimming bath by the river Sava in Slavonski Brod, our town.
City swimming bath had only one not so successful season 15 years ago, and since then it was just going to waste, which is a shame because it is located very near our beautiful main sqare.
A few years after this unsuccessful season, our city gave permission to a young talented artist named Filip Mrvelj @3dfilip to paint a huge 3D painting over the floor of the city swimming bath area, which is actually the biggest 3D art in the world. It is best viewed from a certain spot on the top.
This year, our local association called USUDI SE managed to get a permit to contribute in the embelishment of the area as well. The area allowed for the association to work on was the changing cabins, which were placed all along the border wall, just to the left of Filip’s work as looked from above. This project began around summer and lasted until autumn, and it involved a large number of people.
Participants were both young and old, people made new friends, discovered new talents and left their marks until river Sava grows over winter and washes it all away until spring.
Each of the participants was assigned a cabin and picked a theme of their work, and what’s great about it is that anyone could paint anything they wanted, which gave way to a bunch of amateurs to realize their genius ideas.
As our canvases were basically concrete chambers, painting was like being in a sauna, so most of the work was being done in late hours of the day. That made the project a more socializing friendly platform, so the work was not being done as time efficient as it could’ve been :D
However, our city swimming bath flourished with new life. People of all ages came to watch and hang out, some even helped out. Kids were taking photos in the cabins with their favorite cartoon characters.
On the main wall of my cabin I painted my own design which I came up with in the beginning of this year while I had my black and white faces with triangles phase. The base of the design remained the same, only this time it was colored. I’m mostly happy how it turned out, but I should’ve made it a bit bigger. All in all, it was my first wall painting and I’m happy with it.
On the left wall I decided to paint the main character of my favorite game, Hollow Knight.
While I was painting the main part, Hollow Knight sketch was waiting on the left. Seeing how the two ideas were vastly different, I was thinking about painting something else over him, however I came to a realization that he was too cute and now I’m glad I made him a part of this!
I’d like to thank the USUDI SE association for inviting me to be a part of their project, I had a lot of fun and I hope we’ll do something like this next summer as well.
In case you’re in the area, stop by our city swimming bath to check out our work, while they’re still there. We’re lucky that this winter Sava’s water level is still pretty low, so everything is still visible. You can check the photos on my instagram @inesvasko in Highlights under the name Usudi se!
Happy holidays, guys!
